Oppo A2m Goes Official with 90Hz Display, Dimensity 6020 Chip, and 5,000mAh Battery

Oppo has quietly launched a budget smartphone in China dubbed as Oppo A2m. The device was first heard about in September and was listed on China Telecom’s website last week, revealing its entire specs. Today, the handset is finally official and is also up for sale.

In this article, we will take a comprehensive look at the Oppo A2m, including its design, specifications, features, performance, battery life, camera quality, price, and availability.

Oppo A2m : Design and Display

The Oppo A2m features a flat frame design with volume buttons on the left side and the power key on the right spine. The back of the phone looks modern and premium due to its texture, but the front of the handset is completely opposite, with a dewdrop-notched display and thick bezels all around.

The 6.56-inch LCD screen offers a resolution of 1612 x 720 pixels (HD+), 269 PPI, and a 90Hz refresh rate. Interestingly, the panel’s peak brightness level can reach up to 720 nits.

Specifications and Features

The Oppo A2m is powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 6020 chip paired with LPDDR4x RAM and UFS 2.2 storage. On the software front, it boots ColorOS 13.1 based on Android 13.

The smartphone only has a single 13MP rear camera and a 5MP selfie camera, but it does arrive with a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, a MicroSD card slot, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and a single speaker. It is also IP54-rated for splash resistance.

Connectivity options on the Oppo A2m include dual SIM, 5G, dual-band WiFi, Bluetooth 5.3, GNSS, and USB Type-C. The phone measures 8.12mm in thickness and weighs 185g. Lastly, it is backed by a 5,000mAh battery with support for standard 10W wired charging.

Performance

The MediaTek Dimensity 6020 chip that powers the Oppo A2m is a mid-range chipset that is capable of handling most everyday tasks with ease. However, it is not the most powerful chipset on the market, so users should not expect to play demanding games on high settings.

In terms of benchmarks, the Oppo A2m scored 257,322 in AnTuTu and 624 in Geekbench 5 (single-core) and 2,107 in Geekbench 5 (multi-core). These scores are comparable to other smartphones in the same price range.

Battery Life

The Oppo A2m’s 5,000mAh battery is one of its biggest selling points. With moderate usage, the phone can easily last for two days on a single charge. Even with heavy usage, the phone should last for a full day without any problems.

Camera Quality

The Oppo A2m’s single 13MP rear camera is capable of taking decent photos in good lighting conditions. However, the camera struggles in low light and the images often come out grainy. The 5MP selfie camera is also average and is best suited for taking video calls.

Price and Availability

The Oppo A2m is currently only available in China. However, it is expected to be launched in other markets soon. The phone is priced as follows in China:

  • 6GB + 128GB – ¥1,499 (~$205)
  • 8GB + 256GB – ¥1,799 (~$245)
  • 12GB + 256GB – ¥2,099 (~$285)

Conclusion

The Oppo A2m is a budget smartphone that offers a good value for money. It has a decent display, a long-lasting battery, and a good performance for the price. However, the camera is not the best and the phone has a thick bezel design.
